Mzilakazi Rhodesian Ridgebacks
Born in England, I grew up in a household that always had dogs, predominantly pure-bred, including a Great Dane, Golden Retriever, Labrador and both English and Staffordshire Bull Terriers. I spent my teenage years in Zimbabwe, where I developed an appreciation for the multi-talented Rhodesian Ridgeback, and I acquired my first show bitch in 1983 after emigrating to Australia. I bred my first litter in 1985 under the Mzilakazi prefix, and since then, although breeding sparingly, have been lucky enough to campaign a home-grown Specialty Best in Show, Specialty Runner Up in Show (the same year), and an All-Breeds Best in Show winner (also a Grand Champion), along with 11 conformation champions. I have also owned and shown Whippets.
I have been involved in Club administration for over 30 years, including many years on the Committee of the RR Club of Victoria, and more recently as President, Show Secretary and Treasurer (current) (over a period of 20 years) for an All Breeds Kennel Club in country Victoria, conducting 3 championship shows each year.
In 2009 I entered the judges training program, qualified to judge Hounds at Championship Show level in 2011, Toys in 2015, Non-Sporting in 2017 and Gundogs in 2018.
I enjoy the continuous learning that is the world of dog judging, and I look forward to getting my hands on some lovely dogs!
