The NSC is committed to Saluki Welfare as is indicated in its constitution and rules, and code of ethics.
The Saluki Welfare Fund (SWF), a charity established to provide aid to needy Salukis, was initiated by the NSC President, Roy Goodby. The NSC Welfare Officer and trustee, David Hartley, is one of two wardens on the SWF Committee and works tirelessly on its behalf, as did the late Rosie Lewis on behalf of the NSC for many years before the SWF was established. .
Each year the SWF rehomes numerous Salukis and provides support of various kinds for others in their homes.
The NSC Secretary and Welfare Officer are also members of the Health Committee set up in conjunction with the SGHC to consider health issues in relation to the breed.
In 2004, the NSC collaborated with the SGHC in distributing health questionnaires to its members, as part of the Kennel Club’s health initiative.
The NSC Newsletter includes a regular feature on health matters and reports on current research findings relating to diet, health promotion, canine disorders and their treatment, canine behaviour therapy, and complementary therapies.
